Roles and responsibilities

Our director

The director manages the Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison with federal agencies
  • Lobby for the City during the federal legislative process
  • Share information about issues affecting the City with local and federal officials
  • Serve as lead lobbyist on state issues when needed
  • Share information with City leaders about matters including federal:
    • Bills
    • Hearings
    • Regulations
    • Reports
    • Agencies
    • Congress and Cabinet members

Our representatives

IGR Representatives report to the director.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as City liaisons to the state and other government entities
  • Analyze and researching legislative proposals
  • Propose policy alternatives to the IGR Committee of the City Council
  • Keep elected officials and department heads informed of legislative activity
  • Summarize legislation affecting the City
  • Identify upcoming issues which will affect the City

The IGR team works to enhance the City's partnership with many groups.

Partnerships

  • Local government units. This includes:
    • The Metropolitan Airports Commission
    • Metropolitan Council
    • Regional operating commissions
  • Other cities and Hennepin County
  • Organizations such as Metro Cities and the League of Minnesota Cities
