Garden lease requirements

We explain who can apply for a garden lease, when to do it and what's required.

Who can apply

We lease City-owned lots for:

  • Community gardens
    • Community garden groups growing food to donate or for personal use.
  • Market gardens
    • A business growing food to sell.

Costs

  • Community gardening groups pay $1 a year, plus a one-time fee of $50
  • Market gardeners pay $150 a year, plus a one-time fee of $50

When to request a lease

  • The priority application process is open until Feb. 4, 2024.
  • After that, we will accept applications on a rolling basis. Applications will be first come first served from Feb. 5 until June 1.
