The commission provides a forum for people to take part in police oversight.

Overview

The Community Commission on Police Oversight (CCPO):

  • Requests research and study with the Civil Rights Department’s Office of Police Conduct Review (OPCR). Learn more about OPCR's research and study.
  • Presents results of research and study to the City Council, Mayor, and Chief of Police.
  • Makes recommendations about police-related matters to the City Council, Mayor, and Chief of Police.
  • Creates community outreach programs and activities with the Minneapolis Civil Rights Commission (MCCR). Learn more about MCCR.
  • Contributes to the annual performance review of the Chief of Police.
  • Makes recommendations that prevent retaliation against people who file complaints about the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD).
  • Serves on the Police Conduct Review Panel as civilian panelists.
