About Katie Cashman

Katie Cashman is a dedicated public servant. She has a decade of experience in community development, urban planning, climate policy, and environmental law.

Katie lives in the Steven’s Square Loring Heights neighborhood has a long history in Minneapolis, having grown up swimming in Cedar Lake and serving breakfast at Uptown Diner.

She holds a BA in Geography from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and a MSc in Urban Planning & Management from Technical University Berlin in Germany. Following her international studies, Katie worked at the United Nations in the Urban Legislation Unit of the Human Settlements Program, helping municipalities around the world build environmental and social infrastructure to improve people’s lives.

Katie also founded and led a non-profit for community development in addition to a program that is advancing climate change education in classrooms, including here in our own MPS elementary schools.

Most recently, Katie worked as a Project Manager at the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy (MCEA), a public interest environmental law firm.

As a Council Member, Katie leads with transparency, helping connect Ward 7 residents to City Hall and work together for solutions to the pressing daily issues we face in our neighborhoods. In her free time, you can find Katie biking around Lake of the Isles or walking her rescue dog, Hazel, through the Walker Sculpture Garden.
